Snowshoe Trip
March 14, 2010 – March 24, 2010
Northern Quebec
Have you ever wanted to sleep on spruce boughs in a woodstove-warmed prospector style tent in a Cree bush camp in the Quebec wilderness? Have you ever wanted to learn more about the ancient woodland Cree culture and how they have lived in harmony with the land for thousands of years? If you enjoy new adventures, you are invited to travel with Deb Williams from Hulbert Outdoor Center in Fairlee, Vermont, to Northern Quebec, to spend a week with a Cree Family in their winter camp. The group will begin and end the journey in Fairlee, Vermont, traveling to the village of Ouje Bougoumou, a village which strives to use the best of both their traditional culture and the modern world. Ouje Bougoumou has been recognized as a model aboriginal community by the United Nations. Travel with a Cree family, by snowshoe, to a bush camp where we will live in the traditional way and learn from Cree Elders. Experience the stunning and wild beauty of Northern Quebec in the late winter.
Hulbert Outdoor Center, located in Fairlee, Vermont, has been offering outdoor programs, family camps, youth & adult wilderness trips, school programs, wilderness emergency medicine, Elderhostel and weekend retreats for more than 30 years. They are a program of the Aloha Foundation, Inc. which has been running summer camps for more than 100 years. This particular program is a part of our Northern Issues Trip Program which has been examining issues of Native People of the North for over 20 years.
